Frequently asked questions

The short answers. For the deeper reading — what the green ring means, how to read the five modes together, the baseline audit — see the community guides.

The basics

What is Membrane Health?

Membrane Health reads your whole physiology as one living system and tells you, each day, how much you have to give — go, caution, or recover. It's built on the data your Apple Watch already collects, and it computes your state from explicit, formally-proven mathematics rather than guessing at it.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

Yes. Membrane Health reads the signals your Apple Watch records through Apple Health, so an Apple Watch — and an iPhone — is required for it to work well. The more consistently you wear it, especially overnight, the sharper your readings.

What data does it use?

Around twenty signals from Apple Health — including heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep stages, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, blood oxygen, VO₂ max, and movement — sorted into four living systems (autonomic, circadian, metabolic, mechanical) and measured against your own rolling 28-day baseline.

Is it a medical device? Can it diagnose me?

No. Membrane Health surfaces patterns in your own health data. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. For medical concerns, see a licensed clinician.

How it reads you

How is this different from other apps — or from AI?

Membrane Health computes your state from explicit mathematics that has been formally proven correct, reads your whole system at once, and can show its work behind every reading.

It isn't an AI narrating your numbers. An AI can ingest a health history, but with no stable ontology to read it from, the best it can return is a plausible story. Membrane Health reads the state itself. See the science →

Why 28 days? How long until it's accurate?

Your readings are live from day one, and they sharpen as the app learns your normal over a rolling 28-day window. Until you have a full 28 days — and at least a couple of baselines per system — take the read as directional: useful, but still finding its feet. You can watch it fill in under Baseline Audit at the bottom of the home card.

What do "go, caution, recover" mean?

That's your daily policy — a live read of where your signals stand against your own baseline, not a verdict. Red after a hard workout can be perfectly normal; what matters is the pattern over hours and days, not any single moment.

What are the five modes?

Every reading resolves your system into one of five modes — Sleep, Stress, Rest, Flow, or a rare personal peak called Nova — describing the posture your nervous system is actually in. Meet the five modes →

Your data

Is my data private?

Yes. Membrane Health is built on Apple Health and reads your data where it already lives; Fieldflux does not sell your personal information. When you choose to share a snapshot with a clinician or coach, it carries no identifying details and self-destructs after three days. See Your data and the Privacy Policy.

Plans & availability

What's free, and what's paid?

Your honest daily read — status, recommendation, mode, and membrane resilience — is free. Basic adds your personalized baselines, health dimensions, and insights on coherence, timing, phase, amplitude, drift and recovery. Pro adds the live instrument panel, a 28-day analysis with PDF export, professional sharing, phase-based physiology mapping, and the Travel Planner. Compare the plans →

When can I get it? What do I need?

Membrane Health is in closed beta now and opens worldwide on August 8, 2026. It runs on iPhone with Apple Watch.
