The basics
What is Membrane Health?
Membrane Health reads your physiology as one living system and shows how much room your system has today through a simple go, caution, or recover reading.
The measurements already collected by your Apple Watch come into relation through explicit mathematics, allowing your current state to take shape within a defined physiological state space. Your history gives that state personal context, while the distance to its living boundary gives today's capacity meaning.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
Yes. Membrane Health reads the signals your Apple Watch records through Apple Health, so an Apple Watch — and an iPhone — is required for it to work well. The more consistently you wear it, especially overnight, the sharper your readings.
What data does it use?
Around twenty signals from Apple Health — including heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep stages, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, blood oxygen, VO₂ max, and movement — sorted into four living systems (autonomic, circadian, metabolic, mechanical) and measured against your own rolling 28-day baseline.
Is it a medical device? Can it diagnose me?
No. Membrane Health surfaces patterns in your own health data. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. For medical concerns, see a licensed clinician.
How the reading works
How does Membrane arrive at a reading?
Membrane Health begins with a defined physiological state space and computes your position within it from the measurements you authorize.
Those measurements enter explicit relationships that resolve into a structured state, with each contributing measurement preserved as part of the reading. The mathematics is deterministic, traceable, and formally verified for the properties it claims. See the science →
Does Membrane tell me what I should do?
No. Membrane gives you a measured perspective on your current physiology. It shows the position it computes, the relationships contributing to it, and how that position has been moving through time.
You decide how that information belongs in your own experience, choices, and conversations with the people you trust. Membrane observes. You decide.
Why 28 days? How long until it's calibrated?
Your reading is live from day one, and every new day adds context to the history behind it.
Across a rolling 28-day window, your baselines deepen, the coordinates become more fully calibrated, and today's position acquires a richer physiological history. The first day gives you a position; the days that follow give that position enough history for its movement to become increasingly meaningful. You can watch it fill in under Baseline Audit at the bottom of the home card.
What do Go, Caution, and Recover mean?
Go, Caution, and Recover are the simplest expression of today's position, bringing current load, available capacity, and recovery direction into one clear daily signal. They are summaries of the measurement, not commands.
Because the position continues to move through the hours and days that follow, each reading also becomes part of the larger history that gives future readings their context.
What are the five modes?
Every reading resolves the whole system into one of five modes — Sleep, Stress, Recovery, Flow, or a rare personal peak called Nova.
The position tells you where the system is within the defined state space, while the mode describes how the system is organizing itself there. Meet the five modes →
Your data
Is my data private?
Yes. Membrane Health reads your data through Apple Health under the permissions you control, and Fieldflux does not sell your personal information.
Your data remains yours throughout the process. You decide what is shared, who can receive it, and how long that access remains available. When you share a snapshot with a clinician or coach, it carries no identifying details and self-destructs after three days. See Your data and the Privacy Policy.
